A two-and-a-half-year-old child died after drowning in a pond in Chattogram’s Boalkhali upazila on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Hossain, son of Md Taiyeb of Chandanaish upazila. The family had been living in a rented house in Uttar Kanjuri village under Sarowatoli union of Boalkhali for work purposes.

According to family sources, the incident occurred while guests were visiting their house, keeping family members busy. At one point, the child went missing and later fell into a nearby pond unnoticed.

Later, locals found the child floating in the pond, rescued him and rushed him to Boalkhali Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Boalkhali Upazila Health Complex emergency medical officer Dr Kanta Adhikari confirmed the death and said the child was likely dead before arrival.
