‘Myterious death’ of schoolgirl in Gaibandha

A body of  an eighth-grade student was recovered from her brother-in-law’s residence at Gaibandha Sadar upazila on Thursday. 

The deceased was identified as Monalisa Akter, 15, daughter of Hannan Mia. 

According to locals, Monalisa had been in a relationship with a neighbor’s son, Shrabon. The duo reportedly fled home last Tuesday (April 21), prompting her family to file a missing person’s report with the Sadar Police Station.

Following a local mediation after they were located, Monalisa was returned to her family and stayed at her elder sister's house. 

Family members reported that she suddenly fell ill on Thursday night and died shortly after.

Sadar Police Station, officer-in-charge Abdullah Al Mamun, confirmed the incident on Friday, stating that the body has been sent to the General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

While no immediate signs of injury were found on the body, the OC noted that the exact cause of death will be determined once the autopsy report is available.
