Md Abdul Quddus, a member of the BNP chairman's advisory council and a freedom fighter, has died at the age of 76.

He breathed his last under intensive care in a Dhaka hospital on Saturday afternoon after prolonged treatment, said Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP's media cell.

His first funeral prayers were offered in front of the party's central office in the capital's Naya Paltan after Asr prayers.
Family members said his second and final funeral will be held in his village in Gafargaon Upazila of Mymensingh after Zohr prayers on Sunday. He will then be buried in the family graveyard.

A former teacher and deputy superintendent of the Department of Ophthalmology at Bangladesh Medical University and the head of a pro-BNP organisation, Quddus also served Khaleda Zia when she was the party chief.
