
RANGAMATI, Apr 27: A newly constructed 250-bed building of Rangamati General Hospital was inaugurated on Monday, marking a significant expansion of healthcare capacity in the hill district.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural programme, Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan said the government is placing special emphasis on the development of the health and education sectors.
"The inauguration of this 250-bed general hospital building will take healthcare services in the region a step forward," he said, adding that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right of every citizen.
He noted that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, is working to ensure that no one is deprived of essential health services.
The programme was held at noon on the hospital premises, organised jointly by the district health department and the Public Works Department.
Presided over by Civil Surgeon Dr Nuyen Khisa, the event was also addressed by Rangamati Sadar Zone Commander Lt Col Md Ekramul Rahat, District Council Chairman Kajal Talukdar, Principal of Rangamati Medical College Prof Priti Prasun Barua, Additional Superintendent of Police Iqbal Hossain, Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department Sharmi Chakma, and Resident Medical Officer Dr Shawkat Akbar, among others.
The minister said steps would be taken to identify and address the existing challenges in the health and education sectors in the Chattogram Hill Tracts region. "Effective initiatives will be undertaken not only in the district sadar but also to modernise hospitals in remote hill areas," he said.
He added that he had already discussed these issues with the health minister and expressed hope that the prevailing problems in the sector would be resolved soon.
Urging hospital authorities and staff to ensure proper treatment for patients, he also called for maintaining a friendly and compassionate attitude towards those seeking care at the facility.
