Members of Border Guard Bangladesh have detained a constable of Armed Police Battalion (APBN) along with 20,000 Yaba pills at Maricha check-post of Ramu upazila in Cox's Bazar district on Friday.

The arrest took place around 6:30 PM during a routine inspection at Khuniapalong union check-post.

The arrested individual is Sajib Bepari, 23, a constable of 8th APBN stationed at a Rohingya camp in Ukhia and a native of Dhaka's Dhamrai.

Commanding officer of BGB Ramu 30 Battalion, Lt Col Kazi Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, confirmed the incident stating that BGB members intercepted a Teknaf-bound auto-rickshaw for inspection. Sajib, wearing a T-shirt with the APBN logo, sparked suspicion with his behavior.

Upon searching his bag, officials recovered 20,000 pieces of Yaba pills and seized his official ID card, he added.

Commenting on the matter, Commander of the 8th APBN, Additional Deputy Inspector General Riaz Uddin Ahmed, said that an investigation is underway to determine how the officer became involved in drug trafficking and confirmed that strict departmental action will be taken against him.

Legal proceedings are currently being processed, he added.
