A couple was arrested for smuggling drugs using a child as a shield at Senbagh upazila of Noakhali district on Thursday.
Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) and RAB jointly operated the drive and recovered 3,900 pieces of Yaba, Yaba powder and two mobile phones.
The arrests were confirmed on Friday morning by , Noakhali DNC Deputy Director Subrata Sarkar Shuvo.
The operation took place late Thursday night in front of Maisha Store on the Feni-Noakhali highway.
The arrested are as Abdul Hamid, 32 and his wife, Baby Akhter, 23, from Yangcha village in Bandarban’s Lama upazila.
According to officials, the joint team from DNC Noakhali and RAB-7 (Feni) acted on a tip-off to intercept the couple on the sidewalk. Upon searching their belongings, authorities found the Yaba pills and 8 grams of raw Yaba powder.
During initial interrogation, the couple confessed to carrying the child to evade the suspicion of law enforcement while smuggling drugs from Chittagong.
Deputy Director Subrata Sarkar Shuvo stated that a case has been filed by Inspector Md. Saiful Islam.
Following legal procedures, the suspects will be sent to jail through Senbagh Police Station, the official added.
