KHULNA, May 10: Lawmaker of Khulna-4 constituency and BNP Information Affairs Secretary Azizul Bari Helal on Saturday evening said Pithavog in Rupsha Upazila would be developed into a research centre for the study of the life and works of Rabindranath Tagore.
"All necessary government support and plans required to establish the research centre will be implemented as soon as possible," he said.
He made the remarks while addressing a discussion at the Rabindra Memorial Museum in Pithavog marking the 165th birth anniversary of the world poet as the chief guest. The topic of the discussion was "Rabindranath and Secularism".
Helal said the literary works of Rabindranath are not only ornaments of Bangla language and culture, but also an eternal guideline of humanity, secularism, peace and beauty.
"Through his poems, songs, stories, novels and essays, Rabindranath envisioned a humane society where there would be no division among people on the grounds of religion, caste, race or ideology," he added.
The MP said Rabindranath's literature teaches people how to uphold human values, sympathy and mutual respect.
Alongside deep patriotism, his writings also carry a universal message of humanity, he added.
"The new generation must be introduced more deeply to Rabindranath's literature and philosophy, as a humane, liberal and cultured society can be built through Rabindra studies," he added.
