Another 170 Bangladeshi nationals were repatriated from Benghazi, Libya on Tuesday and arrived in Bangladesh by a Buraq Air flight.
Officials from the foreign ministry, relevant government agencies, and the International Organization for Migration received the returnees at the airport. The foreign ministry urged the returnees to share their traumatic experiences to help raise public awareness about the dangers of illegal migration.
The repatriation was carried out with the support of the Libyan government and the International Organization for Migration through coordinated efforts by the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment.
Most of the returnees reportedly entered Libya illegally after being lured by human traffickers with promises of travelling to Europe by sea. Many of them allegedly faced abduction and torture during their stay in Libya.
The International Organization for Migration provided each returnee with travel assistance, food supplies, primary medical care, and temporary accommodation where necessary.
The Foreign Ministry, the Bangladeshi Embassy in Libya, the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, and the International Organization for Migration are continuing joint efforts to ensure the safe return of Bangladeshi nationals detained at various detention centers in Libya.
