Nusrat murder case verdict today

The High Court is to deliver verdict on Monday (August 24) regarding death references, appeals and jail appeals in the murder case of madrasa student Nusrat of Sonagazi in Feni.

Earlier on August 20, hearing for the death references and appeals concluded.

Mentionable, madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi was sexually harassed by then-principal of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa Siraj Ud Doula on March 27, 2019. He was later arrested due to a case filed against him.

On April 6, she was allegedly taken to the madrasa rooftop and tied there. Then she was poured kerosene and set on fire after her refusal to withdraw the case.

She passed away on April 10 during her treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

On Oct. 24, 2019, all 16 accused, including Siraj Ud Doula, were awarded death penalty by Feni Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal.

Afterwards, the convicts filed appeals and jail appeals while the judgment of the tribunal was sent to the High Court in respect of death references. Now the High Court will give its judgment on all the matters.
