A public holiday will be observed across Bangladesh on Wednesday (August 26) on the occasion of Holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi (PBUH).
Employees of government, semi-government, and autonomous institutions will enjoy the holiday. However, relevant institutions and staff providing essential services will remain outside the purview of this holiday to keep emergency operations running.
According to the official government calendar, August 26 is designated as a public holiday for Eid-e-Miladunnabi. Employees taking an additional day of leave on Thursday (August 27) can secure a continuous four-day break alongside the regular Friday and Saturday weekend.
Staff members in key utility and emergency sectors must remain on duty during the holiday to ensure uninterrupted public services. Exempted sectors include electricity, water, gas, fire service, telephone, internet, and postal services.
Hospitals and medical facilities - including doctors, nurses, and support staff - are also excluded from the holiday to maintain emergency healthcare services.
Furthermore, the holiday will not apply to the transportation of medicines and medical equipment, emergency vehicles, or personnel deployed on emergency duties.
Earlier on August 13, an Islamic Foundation press release confirmed that August 26 would be observed as a public holiday based on the calendar for the month of Rabiul Awal 1448 Hijri.
Bangladesh Bank will issue separate operational guidelines regarding the opening or closure of commercial banks, while the Supreme Court of Bangladesh will decide on court schedules for the day.
