Measles symptoms claim 3 more children; daily cases top 1,200

Three more children died from measles-like symptoms in Bangladesh over the last 24 hours, while 1,228 others were infected with measles or exhibited symptoms.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the updated figures in a press release on Sunday (August 23) afternoon.

The press release clarified that while three children died showing measles symptoms during the 24-hour period, no child died from confirmed measles cases.

With the latest figures, a total of 834 children have died from measles symptoms across the country since March 15. A total of 99 children died from confirmed measles during the same period, bringing the total death toll from measles and suspected symptoms to 933.

Furthermore, 131 children tested positive for measles over the last 24 hours, while 1,097 exhibited symptoms. During this period, 1,026 new pediatric patients were admitted to hospitals, while 824 recovered patients were discharged.

DGHS data showed that the total number of suspected measles cases reached 149,503 between March 15 and August 23, with 18,404 confirmed cases. A total of 130,609 patients were admitted to hospitals during this period, of whom 125,975 returned home following treatment.
