Two individuals, including a child, were killed in separate road accidents in Jhenaidah district on Friday.
In one incident, a motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a bus in front of the Central Shaheed Minar in Jhenaidah town in the afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Arz Ali, 18, son of Liton Hossain of Kalukhali village under Kotchandpur upazila.
According locals, the incident occurred when Arz Ali was crossing a lane on his motorcycle near the Shaheed Minar intersection. A speeding bus ran over the motorcycle, leaving him dead on the spot.
Later, firefighters recovered the body and sent it to Jhenaidah Genery Hospital morgue.
Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Asaduzzaman said the body was kept at the morgue for an autopsy.
“The bus involved in the accident has been seized and kept at the police station. Legal action will be taken in this regard,” the OC added.
In a separate incident, a three-year-old girl was killed after being hit by a moving auto-van in Shailkupa upazila around 11 AM.
The deceased was identified as Mim Khatun, daughter of Kabir Hossain of Goshaidanga village under Sarutia union.
Locals said the child was playing beside a road in front of her house when a passenger-carrying auto-van lost control and hit her. She was crushed under the vehicle’s wheel and sustained critical injuries.
Later, family members rescued her and took her to Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors declared her dead.
Shailkupa Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Humayun Kabir Molla confirmed the incident and said legal steps would be taken.
