Sohel Rana, prime accused in a case filed over rape and murder of eight-year-old child Ramisa Akter, and his wife, Swapna Akter, were produced before a Dhaka court on Monday morning for a hearing on charge framing.
The accused were brought to the court by a prison van at around 7:30AM and were subsequently kept in the court's holding cell.
The hearing on the framing of charges is scheduled to take place before the Dhaka Children Violence Suppression Tribunal. Judge Masrur Salekin is expected to hear arguments in the presence of the accused.
Earlier on May 24, the tribunal set June 1 for the charge framing hearing in a case filed over the rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa in the capital's Pallabi area.
According to the investigation, evidence was found against Sohel Rana for the rape and murder of the child, while his wife, Swapna Akter, is accused of abetting the crimes.
The brutal incident occurred on May 19. Ramisa, a second-grader at Popular Model High School in Mirpur, was found murdered following a sexual assault, an incident that sparked widespread outrage.
