2 killed in Natore road accident

Two young men were killed and another seriously injured after a mango-laden truck ran over their motorcycle on the Natore�"Bogura highway at Singra upazila of Natore district on Monday morning.

The deceased were identified as Muktar Hossain Hira, son of Motaleb Hossain of Islambari village at Natore Sadar upazila, and Jibon Rahman, son of Sazedur Rahman of Lalpur upazila. The injured victim, Saiful Islam, is undergoing treatment. The three were cousins.

According to police and local sources, the trio were travelling on a motorcycle from Natore towards Singra when the accident occurred near the Amtali Bridge area.

As they reached the bridge, a mango-laden mini truck coming from the opposite direction reportedly ran over the motorcycle, killing Muktar Hossain Hira and Jibon Rahman on the spot and leaving Saiful Islam critically injured.

On receiving information, members of the police and Fire Service rushed to the scene and carried out rescue operations. The injured was first taken to Natore Sadar Hospital. Later, as his condition deteriorated, he was referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Jhalmalia Highway Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mahabur Rahman said the bodies had been recovered and sent to the morgue for autopsy. 

Efforts are underway to seize the truck involved in the accident, the OC added.
