Awami League Advisory Council member, veteran freedom fighter and former Dhaka member of parliament AKM Rahmatullah passed away early Wednesday at a hospital in Dhaka.
He breathed his last at around 3:45AM while undergoing treatment at Square Hospital, where he had been receiving care for a long time.
Rahmatullah's nephew Faruk Hossain said the namaz-e-janaza will be held at Badda's Beraid field at 4PM on Wednesday before Rahmatullah is buried at the Beraid graveyard.
The former MP was also the former president of the Dhaka Metropolitan North unit of the Awami League.
A five-time MP, Rahamatullah was first elected as the Dhaka-5 MP on the Awami League ticket in the third parliamentary election of 1986 and was also elected as the Dhaka-5 MP in the seventh national election in 1996.
In the 2008 election, he was elected as a member of parliament from the Dhaka-10 constituency on the Awami League ticket.
In the 10th general election of 2014, he was elected from the Dhaka-11 constituency unopposed.
Then, in the 11th parliamentary polls of 2018, he was elected as a member of parliament from the Dhaka-11 seat.
He had been serving as the member of parliament from the Dhaka-11 constituency until 2024.
