Dr. Zubaida Rahman, vice-president of Ziaur Rahman Foundation and wife of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has reiterated her pledge to ensure equal educational opportunities for students living in country’s remote areas.

She came up with this commitment on Sunday while attending the closing and prize-giving ceremony of the Dhaka district-level "Startup, Science Project and Innovation Idea Showcasing" competition at BAF Shaheen College in Tejgaon in the capital as the chief guest.

Many schools in the country are in poor condition and some buildings have become unusable and despite these challenges, students have continued their education with determination, she pointed out.

Zubaida said efforts will be made to ensure that students in remote areas receive the same quality education and opportunities as others.

"We will work to ensure that students in remote areas get quality education and equal opportunities. To make the education system more practical, modern and effective, greater emphasis will be placed on teamwork, practical learning and moral education from Grade Seven," she said.

She highlighted the poor condition of several government primary schools in different far-reach regions, mentioning Tekna Maheshpur Government Primary School in Dinajpur's Birol Upazila, Dakshin Kewar Government Primary School in Munshiganj Sadar, Nazirpur Government Primary School in Habiganj Sadar and Burmese Government Primary School in Cox's Bazar Municipality.
She said years of neglect had left many schools in a deteriorating condition.

“The current situation is the result of neglect over many years. Many school buildings have become unusable. Yet students have not stopped studying, and teachers continue to perform their duties despite many limitations,” she said. Referring to Ayumari Government Primary School in Bhurungamari Upazila of Kurigram, she said the roof of the school building has been at risk of collapsing.

“Even in such a dangerous environment, talented students are continuing their education. I believe their efforts and determination will succeed one day,” she said.
