The Dhaka Stock Exchange’s main index fell nearly 100 points on Sunday, hitting a three-month low, as 87 per cent of traded companies saw their share prices decline.

The DSEX fell 96.61 points to close at 5,418, its lowest level in three months. Turnover stood at Tk 571.31 crore, up about Tk 26.89 crore from the previous session.

Of the 384 companies and mutual funds that traded on the DSE, prices rose for 27, fell for 336 and remained unchanged for 21.

Market insiders attributed the decline to investor uncertainty amid an overall economic slowdown linked to gas and power shortages. They also cited the lack of new companies entering the market over the past two years as another reason for the downturn.

Envoy Textiles topped the turnover chart, followed by Sharp Industries and Paramount Textiles.

Prime Finance led the gainers by percentage, followed by EBL and Reliance Insurance.

Meanwhile, the broader index of the Chittagong Stock Exchange fell 150.87 points, while turnover stood at Tk 14.24 crore.
