Durian, often referred to as the ‘king of fruits’, and jackfruit specially flown in from Bangladesh were featured as desserts at a luncheon hosted by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in honour of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s official visit to Malaysia.
The luncheon took place at the Seri Perdana Complex on Monday.
Upon their arrival, the two leaders were warmly welcomed by students from several schools in Putrajaya, Dengkil, Kajang, and Sungai Merab, who greeted them with chants of “Welcome to Malaysia.”
A cultural performance by dancers from Istana Budaya also marked the occasion.
The event was attended by members of Tarique Rahman’s delegation including his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman as well as Anwar Ibrahim’s wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Several Malaysian cabinet ministers and senior government officials were also present.
The Bangladesh Prime Minister arrived in Malaysia on 21 June at Anwar’s invitation, marking his first official bilateral overseas visit since taking office in February 2026.
Bangladesh is Malaysia’s 28th-largest trading partner worldwide and its second-largest trading partner in South Asia after India.
