National Vitamin A+ Campaign Begins In Districts

Ensuring timely vaccination to protect children’s health stressed

The National Vitamin A+ Campaign was inaugurated in all the districts of the country on Sunday with a call to ensure timely vaccination and adequate nutrition to protect children’s health and support their proper physical and mental development.

GOPALGANJ: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health (State Minister rank) Dr Ziauddin Haider officially inaugurated the Campaign at the Gopalganj Municipality Auditorium like the rest of the country on Sunday. After the inauguration, he participated in a press briefing.

Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony, he criticised the previous interim government and said, “You have seen the outbreak of measles this time. And this is because of the serious mistake of the previous interim government. Whether they made a mistake or due to lack of foresight, they failed to administer the measles vaccine that was supposed to be given in 2024-25. And because of that, we have to see the outbreak of measles.”

Gopalganj-2 Constituency MP Dr KM Babar spoke as the special guest. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Arif-uz-Zaman, Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Habibullah, Director of Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital Dr Mohammad Mojibur Rahman, UNICEF Barishal Field Office Chief Dr Md Kawsar Hossain, Gopalganj Eye Hospital Director Professor Shahin Iqbal and Gopalganj Medical College Principal Dr Golam Morshed also spoke at the ceremony.

It is mentioned that 1,76,560 children are being fed Vitamin A capsules at 7 permanent and 1,676 temporary centres in the district.

JOYPURHAT: Zilla Parishad Administrator and District BNP Senior Joint Convener Masud Rana Pradhan inaugurated the campaign at the Joypurhat 250-bed General Hospital with a target to feed blue and red coloured Vitamin A capsules to a total of 1,38,233 children at 825 centres in the district.

Hospital Superintendent Dr Sardar Rashed Mubarak, Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr Al Mamun and other officials of the Health Department were also present at that time.

KHULNA: Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju inaugurated the campaign at the auditorium of Khalishpur Collegiate Girls’ School as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that Vitamin A plays a vital role in strengthening children’s immunity and protecting their eyesight. He also underscored the importance of ensuring timely vaccination to safeguard children from various preventable diseases.

“The government is implementing regular and emergency vaccination programmes across the country to protect every child. Today’s children are the future of the nation. Building a strong nation requires ensuring children’s health and safety from the very beginning of life,” he said.

KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed chaired the function. Among others, CS Dr Mahfuza Khatun, KCC Secretary Md Reza Rashid, Deputy Director (DD) of the Department of Family Planning Md Akib Uddin, Assistant Director of the Health Department Dr Aparna Biswas, Principal of Khalishpur Collegiate Girls’ School Md Shahidul Islam, Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan, Chief Revenue Officer Rahima Sultana Bushra, Chief Health Officer Dr Sharif Shammiul Islam and Divisional Coordinator of the World Health Organization Dr Md Arif attended the programme.

Under the campaign, 108,952 children in the Khulna metropolitan area are being fed Vitamin A capsules. Of them, 12,337 children aged between six and 11 months are being fed blue coloured Vitamin A capsules, while 96,655 children aged between 12 and 59 months are being fed red coloured Vitamin A capsules by 1,420 volunteers in 31 wards. A total of 710 centres, including 580 ward-based centres, 80 mobile centres and 50 NGO-operated centres, have been set up, while 62 supervisors oversee the programme.

MUNSHIGANJ: The campaign was inaugurated at Nayagaon Government Primary School. Munshiganj-3 Constituency MP Md Kamruzzaman Ratan, Directorate General of Health Services Secretary Md Khorshed Alam, DC Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi and CS Dr Sajeda Begum were present at that time.

During the campaign, 24,941 children aged 6-11 months in the district are being fed blue coloured Vitamin A capsules and 1,66,695 children aged 12-59 months are being fed red coloured Vitamin A capsules. Under this campaign, a total of 1,91,636 children in the district are being fed Vitamin A capsules.

Speakers at the event said that Vitamin A plays an important role in protecting children's eyesight, boosting immunity and preventing malnutrition-related complications. They urged parents to take all children aged 6-59 months to designated centres and feed them with Vitamin A capsules.

NARAYANGANJ: Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) Administrator Advocate Sakhawat Hossain Khan has said that the measles outbreak in the country has increased due to the negligence of the fascist government and the interim government and there have been cases of child deaths.

He said these things while inaugurating the National Vitamin A+ Campaign at the Nagar Bhaban on Sunday morning.

In the first round of the campaign, about 1.40 lakh children aged 6 to 59 months in the NCC area are being fed Vitamin A capsules in a total of 340 centres, including 144 permanent and temporary EPI centres in 27 wards of the city by about 800 health workers.

The administrator said that Vitamin A capsules help prevent night blindness in children, reduce the risk of diarrhoea and anaemia, and play an important role in ensuring their normal physical growth. “Those who cannot get Vitamin A capsules on the scheduled day will be able to take this service from the concerned centre within the next 15 days,” he added.

PABNA: DC Aminul Islam inaugurated the programme on the Pabna Municipality premises on Sunday morning.

Pabna Municipality Administrator Khairul Islam chaired the inaugural ceremony. It was attended by CS Dr Abul Kalam Azad, Deputy CS Dr Khairul Kabir, Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Jannatul Ferdous Baishakhi, Medical Officer of the CS Office Dr Zahid Kamal, WHO Representative Dr Rashedul Bari, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Pabna Unit President Montu Khan and officials and employees at various levels of the Health Department and the municipality. 

According to the Health Department, 4,20,904 children aged 6 to 59 months are being fed Vitamin A capsules through a total of 1,948 centres in 74 unions in 9 upazilas of the district.

RAJBARI: DC Afroza Parveen formally inaugurated the campaign at the Rajbari Municipal Auditorium at 10:30 am. 

Among others present were CS Dr SM Masud, SP Mohammad Manjur Morshed, DD of the District Family Planning Office Abu Nasr Md Kadar Uddin, Rajbari Municipality Administrator Kalyan Chowdhury, Assistant Commissioner Md Mizanur Rahman, Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Ibadat Hossain, Rajbari District EPI Supervisor Md Kamal Hossain, Rajbari Municipality Executive Officer Rabiul Alam, along with health workers involved in the EPI programme.

Speaking as the chief guest, DC Afroza Parveen said that Vitamin A plays a very important role in increasing the immunity of children, preventing malnutrition and developing health. She made a sincere appeal to the guardians to take all the children of the specified age to the nearest centre and feed them Vitamin A capsules.

According to the CS Office, the campaign is being conducted simultaneously in 135 wards of the district, and 2,132 volunteers are working in this connection.

Under the campaign, children aged 6 to 11 months are being fed blue coloured Vitamin A capsules and children aged 12 to 59 months are being fed red coloured Vitamin A capsules. This year, a target has been set to feed Vitamin A capsules to a total of 1.54 lakh children in the district.

RANGAMATI: The campaign has been launched in the district by CS Dr Nuen Khisa at Manikchhari Manik Lal Dewan Bari in the town with the target of feeding Vitamin A capsules to 86,000 children. 

Rangamati Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Mangkaching Sagar, Health Department Senior Health Assistant Khokon Chakma, Health Assistants Kiran Dhar Chakma and Tushar Dey and other health workers were present at that time.

In this campaign, 85,807 children in the district are being fed Vitamin A capsules. Of them, 10,537 children aged 6 to 11 months are being fed blue coloured Vitamin A capsules and 75,323 children aged 12 to 59 months are being fed red coloured capsules. 

CS Dr Nuen Khisa said that children in remote upazilas of Rangamati will be fed the capsules under this campaign for the next 15 days. 

This time, 2,014 volunteers and 285 workers of the health department are working to feed Vitamin A capsules to children in the district.

TANGAIL: DC Sharifa Haque inaugurated the campaign by feeding Vitamin A capsules to children at Tangail General Hospital at 9 am on Sunday.

Additional DC (General) Sanjay Kumar Mahanta, CS Dr Farazi Md Mahbubul Alam Manju, Tangail General Hospital DD Dr Khandaker Sadiqur Rahman and other concerned persons were present at that time. 

CS Dr Farazi Md Mahbubul Alam said that 5,24,188 children in the district are being fed Vitamin A capsules since Sunday. Of these, 58,532 children aged 6 months to 11 months are being fed blue coloured Vitamin A capsules and 465,656 children aged 1 to 5 years are being fed red coloured Vitamin A capsules.

At the inaugural ceremony, DC Sharifa Haque said that Vitamin A plays an important role in increasing the immunity of children, preventing night blindness and blindness, and in normal physical development. Therefore, she urged the guardians to feed Vitamin A capsules to all children aged 6 to 59 months under the campaign.
