Satkhira BGB destroys narcotics worth Tk 73.75 crore

The 3rd battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) destroyed different types of narcotics worth around Tk 73.75 crore that were seized during operations over the past 16 months in Satkhira.

The narcotics were destroyed on Sunday, June 28, 2026, afternoon at the BGB Headquarters of the 33rd Battalion in Satkhira.

The event was presided over by the Commanding Officer of BGB 33 Battalion, Lt. Col. Kazi Ashikur Rahman. The chief guest was Brigadier General Mahmudul Hasan, Commander of the BGB South-West Region. Special guests included Satkhira Deputy Commissioner Kausar Aziz, Senior Judicial Magistrate Mehedi Hasan, Rapid Action Battalion-Satkhira Camp Commander ASP Jayen Uddin, a representative of the Superintendent of Police, Assistant Director of the Department of Narcotics Control Mizanur Rahman, and Revenue Officer Naim Mia.

In his speech, Chief Guest Brigadier General Mahmudul Hasan said that BGB has been working tirelessly to build a narcotics-free Bangladesh. He said the force plays a vital role in preventing drugs smuggling by carrying out round-the-clock duties along the border. He added that drugs are not only a law and order issue but also a social problem, which requires the participation of people from all levels of society to prevent.

He further said that increasing anti-drug awareness and building social resistance against drugs are the demands of the time.

According to BGB sources, from January 1, 2025, to April 30, 2026, operations conducted in the border areas of Satkhira Sadar and Kalaroa upazilas resulted in the arrest of 48 smugglers. During this period, smuggled goods worth Tk 126 crore 66 lakh 36 thousand and 856 were seized, including narcotics worth Tk 73.75 crore.

The destroyed narcotics included 3,791 bottles of liquor, 4,524 bottles of Phensedyl, 47,270 Yaba pills, 607,769 bidis and cigarettes, 33.4 kg of cannabis, 6,313,120 pieces of illegal medicine, 35 kg of tobacco powder, 2 bottles of liquid lead, 100 kg of banyan leaves, 72.50 millilitres of LSD, 8.583 kg of crystal meth (Ice), and 20 bottles of chemicals used to produce opium.

The event was also attended by senior officials from BGB, the district administration, law enforcement agencies, and various government departments.
