
The nationwide observance of "Nazrul Year" - 2026-27 began on Thursday after Prime Minister Tarique Rahman formally inaugurated the programme through a video conference from the Prime Minister's Office at the Bangladesh Secretariat, with district administrations across the country joining the virtual ceremony.
Following the inauguration, districts launched a series of cultural events aimed at promoting the ideals, literature and legacy of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam among the younger generation.
MUNSHIGANJ: Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Magistrate Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi participated in the virtual inauguration from the deputy commissioner's office.
Among those present were Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Menhazul Alam, PPM, Munshiganj Zila Parishad Administrator AKM Eradat Manu, Additional DC (Revenue) Md Mahmudur Rahman, Sammilita Sangskritik Jote General Secretary Shahnaz Hira, leaders of the cultural alliance, local dignitaries, academics and media representatives.
After the video conference, the DC stressed the importance of embracing Nazrul's ideals of secularism, humanism, equality, justice, patriotism and cultural practice in personal, social and national life.
She said a developed, humane, knowledge-based, culturally enriched and discrimination-free Bangladesh could be built by drawing inspiration from the poet's philosophy, urging everyone to play an active and responsible role from their respective positions.
A three-day "Nazrul Year" celebration began at 3:00pm on Thursday at the Munshiganj Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium under the auspices of the district administration.
Sammilita Sangskritik Jote, Munshiganj President Mozammel Hossain Sojal and General Secretary Shahnaz Hira called upon cultural activists to participate enthusiastically in the programmes.
GOPALGANJ: Gopalganj also joined the nationwide virtual inauguration to spread Nazrul's messages of secularism, equality, humanity and rebellion among the younger generation.
The programme was held at 10 am at the conference room of the DC office, where participants were virtually connected to the central inauguration ceremony in the capital, inaugurated by Prime Minister Tarek Rahman.
Gopalganj-2 lawmaker Dr KM Babar attended the district programme as chief guest.
The event, chaired by DC Md Arif-Uz-Zaman, was attended by SP Md Habibullah, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Amit Debnath, Civil Surgeon Dr Abu Sayeed Mohammad Faruk, Director of Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital Dr Jibitesh Biswas, and Additional DC (Education and ICT) Sobhon Sarkar.
Heads of various government offices, upazila officials, leaders of cultural organisations, political figures, people from different professions and media personnel also attended.
As part of the three-day observance, a discussion, cultural programme, poetry recitation, Nazrul songs and educational activities were scheduled to be held at the Gopalganj District Shilpakala Academy auditorium from 3:30pm on Thursday.
Organisers expressed hope that cultural organisations, including Gopalganj Udichi Shilpigosthi, would help present Nazrul's literature, philosophy and ideals more widely across society through the year-long observance.
PIROJPUR: As a part of countrywide inauguration of Nazrul Barsho, the district administration also organised an inaugural ceremony and discussion meeting at Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday morning.
DC Abu Sayed chaired the meeting while Superintendent of Police Mohamed Monjur Ahmed Siddique, Additional DC (General) Alauddin Bhuyian Jony, political party leaders, freedom fighters and district level officials were present in the meeting.
RANGAMATI: The nationwide observance of "Nazrul Year 2026-27" was inaugurated with the participation of district officials, public representatives and cultural personalities.
The formal inauguration, organised by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, was broadcast via video conference from the Prime Minister's Office at 10:00am.
From the conference room of the Rangamati DC office, the ceremony was attended by Rangamati's Member of Parliament Dipen Dewan, DC Nazma Ashrafi, Superintendent of Police Muhammad Abdur Rakib, Additional DC Ruhul Amin, former mayor Saiful Islam Bhutto, along with officials, elected representatives, cultural personalities and artists.
Speakers said the year-long observance would play an important role in introducing Nazrul's literature, music, ideals of equality, humanity and secularism to the younger generation.
They also announced that various cultural and literary programmes would be organised throughout the year to celebrate the life and works of the National Poet.
