August 15 Sabotage Plot: 22 More Sent to Three-Day Remand

A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed 22 more members of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations on three-day remand in a case over an alleged plot to carry out sabotage and violent activities around August 15.

Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman passed the order after hearing a seven-day remand petition filed by the investigation officer of Vatara Police Station.

Police said the 22 were among 54 people arrested from a house in Bashundhara Residential Area on August 13. Two of the 54 were juveniles.

The prosecution alleged that the accused were planning sabotage and violent activities around August 15. Defence lawyers sought cancellation of the remand and bail.

After hearing both sides, the court granted three days remand for each of the 22 accused.

Earlier, 30 others arrested in the same operation had also been placed on remand�"15 for three days on August 19 and another 15 for one day on August 23.
