The live screening of FIFA World Cup 2026 matches on giant screens at five venues on the University of Dhaka campus has been suspended for Tuesday due to adverse weather.
The organisers announced the decision in an emergency notice on Tuesday evening, saying the screenings were postponed to ensure the safety of spectators amid continuous rainfall and inclement weather.
The screenings are expected to resume on Wednesday if weather conditions improve.
The matches have been screened at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC), Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall playground, Kabi Jasimuddin Hall playground, Jagannath Hall temple premises and Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall playground under an initiative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, with support from the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal's Dhaka University unit and organised by Athlete Sports Gear.
Md Saif Ullah, sports secretary of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal's Dhaka University unit, said the safety of students and visitors remained the organisers' top priority, prompting the suspension of Tuesday's programme.
The organisers also urged people to avoid unnecessary travel and remain cautious until weather conditions improve.
