PM directs full-scale flood response

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed authorities to ensure comprehensive relief, rescue, healthcare, and security measures in flood-hit districts, with special attention to women, children, and other vulnerable groups.

The Prime Minister has assigned State Minister for Power and Energy Anindya Islam Amit to coordinate overall flood response operations, including rescue efforts, rehabilitation, and medical assistance across the affected districts.

According to Chief Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman, the Prime Minister also instructed State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief M. Iqbal Hossain to visit Chattogram on Saturday alongside relevant officials to oversee the situation and coordinate emergency response efforts.

Ruman said officials informed the Prime Minister that floodwaters have started receding in several areas. However, authorities continue to closely monitor the overall situation.

The Prime Minister directed officials to prioritize the safety and well-being of women and children in the affected areas, with particular emphasis on providing special care for pregnant women.

He also instructed law enforcement agencies to remain on high alert to prevent theft, looting, or any other criminal activities that could exploit the disaster situation.

In addition, the Prime Minister ordered authorities to ensure an adequate supply of food, safe drinking water, medical care, and other essential humanitarian assistance for flood-affected communities.

Meanwhile, ministers and members of parliament from the greater Chattogram region have been closely monitoring the flood situation since the onset of the disaster and are actively participating in relief and assistance operations.
