The government rice was found in a private godown in Pirganj of Rangpur, where the sacks of rice were reportedly being transported by a van.

Locals reportedly recorded the whole incident in their cell phones. Later, they were taken into the godown and thrashed, as per allegations.

The godown, Messrs Noor Traders, was sealed by the assistant commissioner (land) on Wednesday (September 9) evening after a mobile court operation. The incident took place at Lal Dighi Mela Hat, in Kabilpur Union.

The godown belongs to Jamaat-e-Islami leader and former UP member Abdul Kaium Mia. His son, Noor Mohammad, is the Jamaat-e-Islami youth wing leader of Pirganj upazila.

Amount of rice stored in the godown could not be confirmed immediately.

Pirganj UNO Mahmudul Hasan said the warehouse was sealed for the time being through a mobile court operation. Further legal actions will be taken accordingly.
