Veteran singer Runa Laila will perform at a special solo concert to raise funds for flood-affected people after the event was rescheduled to July 24, the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy announced in a press release.
Originally scheduled for July 18, the programme will now be held at 6:30 pm on July 24 at the National Theatre Hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Organised under the patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the event will also include a national honour recognising Runa Laila's outstanding contribution to Bangladesh's music industry.
Audience members will be required to purchase tickets at the announced prices, with all proceeds from ticket sales going towards relief efforts for flood victims.
Runa Laila, one of the country's most celebrated singers, has made remarkable contributions to Bangla music over several decades and has played a significant role in promoting it both at home and abroad. The honour is being conferred in recognition of her lifelong achievements.
Minister for Cultural Affairs Nitai Roy Chowdhury will attend the event as the chief guest. State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmud Khayem and Adviser to the Ministries of Information and Broadcasting and Cultural Affairs (with the rank of state minister) Dr. Jahed Ur Rahman will be present as special guests.
The programme will be chaired by Cultural Affairs Secretary Kaniz Moula. Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Director General and poet Sheikh Rezauddin Ahmed (Rezauddin Stalin) will deliver the welcome address, while Academy Secretary Mohammad Zakir Hossain will offer the vote of thanks.
During the concert, Runa Laila will perform a selection of her timeless and popular songs. Organisers hope the event will both honour the legendary singer and encourage public support for people affected by the recent floods.
