Jalalabad Cantonment English School and College (JCESC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the British Council to introduce internationally recognised English language assessments for primary and secondary students. The agreement was signed at the JCESC campus on Wednesday.

Under the partnership, the British Council's Primary English Test (PET) and Secondary English Test (SET) will be introduced at the institution to assess students' English language proficiency at the primary and secondary levels.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by representatives from the British Council, the principal and vice-principal of JCESC, teachers, parents, and students from Classes III to XII.

During the event, it was also announced that an official IELTS Registration Centre has been established at the JCESC campus. The new facility will allow students, teachers, parents and other interested candidates to register for IELTS examinations conveniently through the institution.

Highlighting the significance of the partnership, Junaid Ahmed, Managing Director of English and Examinations at the British Council Bangladesh, said the collaboration would make internationally recognised English language assessment more accessible to primary and secondary students.

"By developing effective English communication skills from an early age, we aim to prepare future generations to succeed in the global arena. We sincerely appreciate the leadership of JCESC for taking the initiative in this important collaboration," he said.

Expressing gratitude to the British Council, JCESC Principal Lieutenant Colonel Md Arifur Rahman, PSC, PhD, AFWC, said the institution was honoured to be selected as a trusted partner.

"We are committed to implementing this initiative with the highest level of professionalism. I believe this partnership will further strengthen the quality of English language education at our institution and help our students become confident, skilled and globally competent citizens," he said.

The programme also featured an informative presentation by Anika Bushra, Account Relationship Manager at the British Council Bangladesh. An interactive question-and-answer session followed, where parents and students engaged directly with British Council representatives to learn more about the objectives, assessment methods and long-term educational benefits of the Primary and Secondary English Tests.

The organisers said the collaboration reflects the shared commitment of JCESC and the British Council to enhancing the quality of English language education. They added that the initiative would provide students with access to international-standard language assessments, opening new opportunities for academic excellence, higher education and global engagement.
