
FENI, July 16:The Feni Battalion (4 BGB) on Wednesday organised a humanitarian outreach programme in Parshuram Upazila, providing free medical treatment, medicines and educational materials while raising public awareness about flood preparedness.
The day-long programme was held on the premises of Parshuram Model Government Primary School under Parshuram Municipality.
Lieutenant Colonel M N Zillur Rahman, Commanding Officer of the Feni Battalion (4 BGB), inaugurated the programme as the chief guest.
Among those present were Feni Superintendent of Police Protyush Kumar Majumder, BGB Assistant Director Md Jasim Uddin, Parshuram Upazila Nirbahi Officer Atonu Barua, Officer-in-Charge of Parshuram Model Police Station Md Ashraful Islam, teachers, students, guardians and journalists.
As part of the programme, specialist doctors in gynaecology, paediatrics, internal medicine and ophthalmology provided free medical care to more than 3,000 people, including women, children, youths and elderly residents from border areas.
Beneficiaries also received free medicines, while eye patients were provided with spectacles. Blood grouping and diabetes screening were conducted, and test reports were handed over on the spot.
The BGB also distributed educational materials among 500 students of the school.
In addition, awareness meetings on flood preparedness were held and leaflets containing safety guidelines were distributed to local residents.
Speaking at the event, Lt Col Zillur Rahman said the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), besides safeguarding the country's borders, regularly carries out humanitarian and public welfare activities for people living in border areas.
He said the force works to improve living standards in border communities by providing healthcare services, conducting disaster response and rescue operations, distributing free medicines, and supporting students with educational materials.
