One more death has been recorded with measles-like symptoms in the last 24 hours, making the total death toll from measles and related viral symptoms at 780 since March 15.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) shared the data in a press bulletin on Friday. It stated that 140 new measles cases were confirmed nationwide in the 24 hours ending at 8:00AM on Thursday.
According to the bulletin, 95 people have died from laboratory-confirmed measles so far. Meanwhile, another 685 individuals passed away showing symptoms of the viral disease.
Dhaka division recorded the highest number of symptomatic deaths at 298. Sylhet division follows with 94 deaths. Furthermore, Rajshahi recorded 89 deaths, Mymensingh 66, Chattogram 55, Barishal 43, Khulna 31, and Rangpur division 9 deaths.
The DGHS added that 873 new patients with measles symptoms visited various hospitals across the country during the 24-hour period. Among them, 781 required hospital admission.
Of the newly hospitalised patients, 269 were admitted in Dhaka division, followed by 210 in Chattogram. Additionally, Barishal hospitalised 110 patients, Sylhet 66, Mymensingh 43, Khulna 38, Rajshahi 31, and Rangpur 14.
With the new admissions, the total number of suspected measles patients hospitalised nationwide has reached 98,600. Out of these, 95,031 patients have already been discharged.
To date, the total number of suspected measles cases in the country stands at 116,011, while the number of laboratory-confirmed measles cases has reached 14,244.
