Police arrest man with 1,900 Yaba tablets in Kurigram

A suspected drug dealer was arrested with 1,900 yaba tablets during a special anti-narcotics drive conducted by Rajibpur Police in Kurigram on Wednesday, police said.

Rajibpur Police arrested a suspected drug dealer and seized 1,900 yaba tablets during a special anti-drug operation in Rajibpur upazila of Kurigram district on Wednesday.

The operation was carried out at around 1:30 pm at Morichakandi intersection under Sadar Union following a tip-off, according to police.

A team led by Sub-Inspectors Golok Chandra and Abdur Rashid of Rajibpur Police Station conducted the raid and arrested the suspect, identified as Shah Alam, 27, son of Rafik from Paschim Goalkanda village in Pathorerchar area of Dewanganj upazila in Jamalpur district.

Police said the yaba tablets were recovered during a body search after his arrest.

Rajibpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahin Alam confirmed the arrest and said a case has been filed against the accused under the Narcotics Control Act. He added that Shah Alam will be produced before the Kurigram court on Thursday.

The OC also said the police would continue anti-narcotics operations and take strict legal action against drug traffickers.
