2 held with stolen 10 bhori gold ornaments recovered in Ctg

Police have arrested two youths on charges of involvement in the theft of 12 Bhori worth of gold from a house in Akbarshah police station area of Chittagong city. About 10 Bhori worth of gold ornaments stolen from them were recovered during this time.

CMP Deputy Police Commissioner (West) Md. Alamgir Hossain gave this information at a press conference at the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Media Center on Tuesday afternoon.

The arrestees were identifide as Mahe Alam alias Shah Alam alias Belal, 30, son of Nuruzzaman Majhi of Shashibhusan police station area of Bhola district, and Md. Monir Hossain, 28, son of the late Syed Mahajan of Char Fashion police station area of the same district.

Deputy Police Commissioner (West) Md. Alamgir Hossain said that the theft occurred between 5:45PM and 6:55PM on July 20 at the house of a woman named Urmila Akhtar in K-Block of Bishwa Colony under Akbarshah Police Station area.

During this time, the thieves stole three necklaces, three chains, one bracelet, two bangles, six pairs of earrings and eight rings, a total of about 12 bhari of gold ornaments and Tk four thousand in cash from the house.

The victim woman filed a case with Akbarshah Police Station on July 24.

After filing the case, a team from Akbarshah Police Station started investigation under the direction of the CMP Police Commissioner. With the help of information technology and analyzing the CCTV footage of the scene, the police conducted a raid in the Nesaria Madrasa Goli area under Pahartali Police Station on Monday July 27. Mahe Alam and Monir Hossain, the accused in the case, were arrested in the raid.

He also said that during the initial interrogation, the arrested persons confessed to their involvement in the theft. Later, based on the information provided by them and their identification, a total of about 10 tons of gold ornaments including three necklaces, three chains, two bangles, three pairs of earrings and two rings were recovered during raids at various places.

Police said that there are 12 cases under the theft and narcotics laws against the arrested accused Mahe Alam in various police stations across the country.
