Class 3 student killed in Chakaria by friend

A third-grade school student has been reported dead after being punched during an altercation with a friend in Chakaria.

The deceased was identified as nine-year-old Tarekur Rahman son of Abdul Majid and Roksana Begum from Pulerchhara area in Kakara union under Chakaria Upazila. The incident occurred late Tuesday night on the Baitush Sharaf road in Namar Chiringa commercial area.

SI Shafiqul Islam Raja of Chakaria Police Station confirmed the details.

Locals said Tarekur used to spend time at a local betel leaf shop on Baitush Sharaf road.

On Tuesday night, Tarekur left the shop to fetch water. An argument broke out with a friend of his age over a trivial matter. During the dispute, the friend struck him hard near his ear.

Tarekur fell critically ill following the blow and was rushed to the upazila health complex. After receiving initial treatment, he was referred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

However, Tarekur died on the way while reaching the Lohagara area of Chittagong.

Chakaria Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Masum Siddiqui said police are aware of the incident and will take legal action if a complaint is filed.
