BTS fans have pushed the group’s song ‘Aliens’ to No. 1 on iTunes’ Top Songs chart in 78 regions following the group’s decision not to submit music for the 2027 Grammy Awards.
The song, from BTS’s fifth studio album ARIRANG, surged after all seven members announced on July 29 that they would not submit their music for Grammy consideration, saying they wanted their music to be appreciated without being divided by region or language.
The decision followed the Recording Academy’s introduction of a Best Asian Pop Music Performance category for the 2027 awards. The new category has drawn criticism from some fans and others who argue that regional classifications could marginalise Asian artists.
The Grammy Awards' chief executive, Harvey Mason Jr, said the Academy respected BTS’s decision and maintained that artists in genre-specific categories can still be considered for the major general-field awards.
Meanwhile, fans have continued to express support for the group on social media, with hashtags including #WeStandWithBTS gaining attention.
