Handcuffed Juba League leader attends mother’s funeral

NILPHAMARI, Aug 4: Shahid Mahmud, the general secretary of the banned district Juba League and former upazila parishad chairman, attended his mother's funeral in handcuffs on the Nilphamari Dakbungalow Circuit House Eidgah ground at 2:30 pm after being released on parole from prison from Rangpur District Jail on Tuesday noon. 

It is known that the district Juba League leader's mother, Rawshan Ara, passed away on Monday night at Rangpur Medical College Hospital. After the funeral, the Juba League leader was taken to Rangpur District Jail.

In this connection, Nilphamari Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zillur Rahman said that extra police were deployed across the town to avoid any kind of chaos.

Mentionable, Juba League leader Shahid Mahmud has been an accused in five cases, including two murders, since August 5, 2024 uprising. He was arrested on the night of September 7, 2025, from a rented house in Dhap Lalkuthi of Rangpur city.
