Dhaka to host two major concerts marking July Mass Uprising Day

Two major open-air concerts will be held in the capital on Wednesday to mark the second anniversary of the July Mass Uprising, featuring some of the country’s leading bands and musicians.

The ‘Songs of the Rain Revolution’ concert will take place at Manik Mia Avenue, organised by the Monsoon Cultural Alliance. Popular bands including Artcell, Aurthohin (Untitled), Arc, AvoidRafa and Kureghor will perform, alongside solo artists Asif Akbar, Sezan, Parsha Mahzabin and Kazi Ahnaf Tahmid.

According to the organisers, the event aims to celebrate the spirit of freedom, unity and resistance through music.

Another programme, ‘concert for Democracy,’ will be held at Suhrawardy Udyan under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, in association with the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and the Bangladesh Musical Bands Association (BAMBA).

The concert will feature performances by Miles, Warfaze, Different Touch, Lalon, Highway, Ashes and Ray Ray. It is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm, while entry for the audience will open at 1:00 pm.

BAMBA President Hamin Ahmed said the concert is being organised to commemorate the significance of August 5 and the role music played during the July movement.

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Director General Rezauddin Stalin said adequate security arrangements have been made to ensure the event is held peacefully and to help preserve the memory of the July Mass Uprising for future generations.
