Campus Safety Must Be Ensured at BRUR

The recent clashes between activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Islami Chhatra Shibir at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) have created deep concern over campus safety. Although the university has barred outsiders and vehicles, deployed additional police, and formed a five-member investigation committee, the incident has left many students fearful.

The violence reportedly erupted over a banner displayed at a photo exhibition organised by Chhatra Shibir, leaving around 20 students injured, including five seriously. While both student organisations have blamed each other and announced separate protest programmes, the university administration has assured that those responsible will be identified through CCTV footage and other evidence and brought under disciplinary action.

It is encouraging that representatives of both organisations have agreed to avoid further violence. However, the authorities must ensure a fair investigation, maintain a peaceful academic environment, and prevent political confrontations from disrupting education.
