11-party alliance calls for action to curb soaring prices in Rajbari

RAJBARI, Aug 7: An 11-party alliance on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the Rajbari deputy commissioner, demanding immediate measures to reduce the prices of essential commodities, electricity and gas.

The memorandum was submitted at the deputy commissioner's office in the afternoon by Md Alimuzzaman, Secretary of the district Jamaat-e-Islami, on behalf of the alliance.

Speaking to journalists, Alimuzzaman said prices of essential commodities had risen beyond the purchasing capacity of ordinary people, while the government had failed to take effective measures to bring them down.

"We have protested against this situation and demanded immediate steps to reduce the prices of essential goods," he said.

The alliance also demanded the withdrawal of increased electricity and gas tariffs and the cancellation of what it described as "ghost electricity bills".

The memorandum was addressed to the prime minister, according to the organisers.

The leaders said rising costs of basic goods and utilities were putting additional pressure on households, particularly those with low and fixed incomes.

They urged the authorities to take immediate steps to stabilise the prices of essential commodities and ensure affordable access to electricity and gas.

Other leaders of the district's 11-party alliance were present during the programme.
