Police barricades the entrance of Alia Madrasa

Police have barricaded the entrance leading to the Government Madrasa-e-Alia in Bakshibazar of Dhaka. 

The barricade was placed on Bakshibazar road after 12:00PM noon on Saturday (August 8). Permission of exiting the premises has been allowed while entrance is prohibited. 

“The legitimate general students and leaders of Islami Chhatra Shibir” issued a press release on Friday, (August 7) which stated that they will enter the halls collectively at 12:30PM on Saturday (August 8).

The statement said that since the alleged attack by leaders and activists of Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal, led by Jubo Dal leader Nayan, on August 4, the legitimate residential students of Government Madrasa-e-Alia had made several attempts to return to their halls but were obstructed by police and the madrasa administration.

The press release alleged that although general students and Chhatra Shibir activists were prevented from entering the halls, the police and madrasa administration had failed to protect students’ valuables - including laptops, motorcycles, cash, electronic devices, academic certificates and passports from looting.

Shibir and legitimate students decided that they would enter the Dhaka Alia Madrasa halls at 12:30PM on Saturday despite coming obstacles. 

Meanwhile, members of the law enforcement agencies have also been stationed in front of the residential halls in connection with the program.
