Charge framing against Hasina, 33 others in truck driver Hossain murder case deferred

A Dhaka court on Thursday deferred the hearing on charge framing against ousted former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 33 others in a murder case filed over the death of truck driver Md Hossain during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 Judge Robiul Alam set September 1 for the hearing.

State counsel Omar Faruk Faruki said the hearing was deferred as four accused, who are currently detained in other cases, could not be produced before the court. A petition has been filed seeking their production in the case.

According to the case documents, Hossain was shot dead in the Chand Udyan area of Mohammadpur on July 19, 2024, while returning home after leaving his truck in Gabtoli.

His mother, Rina Begum, filed the murder case with Mohammadpur Police Station on August 31, 2024.

On November 23, 2025, Mohammadpur Police Sub-Inspector and investigation officer Akramuzzaman submitted a charge sheet against Hasina and 33 others.

Twenty accused, including Hasina, are absconding. The court issued arrest warrants against them on January 26.

Among the accused are former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud, former minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Chhatra League president Saddam Hossain and general secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan.

Former state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak and former MP Sadek Khan are among four accused currently in jail, while 10 others are out on bail.
