Dhaka College students lock main gate demanding academic migration

Dhaka College students locked the institution’s main gate for about an hour on Thursday, demanding academic migration from the University of Dhaka affiliation to Dhaka Central University.

The protest began around noon after students alleged that teachers had prevented them from demonstrating in front of the college’s administrative building. The move triggered tension between teachers and students on campus.

Students chanted slogans demanding academic migration and resolution of issues affecting running academic sessions.

Student protester Syed Abdullah Al Fahad alleged that around 11:30am, a group from the education syndicate came out of the administrative building and removed students who were staying on campus.

He said the university law was passed to resolve academic complications faced by running sessions and address students’ concerns over their institutional identity. However, he alleged that instead of resolving those issues, authorities had proceeded with admission and other activities for the 2025-26 academic year.

Fahad said a decision on running sessions and academic migration had been expected after a recent exchange of views, but no effective decision had yet been announced.

The students later opened the main gate around 1:30pm and temporarily withdrew the programme. They warned of tougher action if their demands are not met.
