A 40-year-old motorcyclist was killed after his bike collided with a long vehicle on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Md Ashraful Islam, son of late Riaz Uddin of Dangapara village under Mirpur Police Station in Kushtia district.
The accident occurred in the Chattogram-bound lane in front of Manabe Water Park in Bausia Union. Ashraful and several other motorcyclists were travelling from Kushtia to Rangamati for a trip. While passing the area, he reportedly lost control of his motorcycle while trying to avoid a pedestrian. The motorcycle crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a long vehicle coming from the opposite direction. Ashraful was thrown onto the road and was subsequently run over by the vehicle.
On receiving information about the accident through the national emergency service 999, police from Bhoberchar Highway Police Station rushed to the scene and rescued Ashraful. He was taken to Gazaria Upazila Health Complex, where the attending doctor declared him dead.
Officer-in-Charge of Bhoberchar Highway Police Station said police are collecting CCTV footage from the area to identify the vehicle involved in the accident. Legal action will be taken after identifying the driver.
