Police took position at the central office of Bangladesh Jasad on Topkhana Road on Saturday ahead of a programme to pay tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The party had scheduled the programme for 5pm to mark the death anniversary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Jasad Standing Committee member Mushtaq Hossain alleged that police were at the office to prevent the programme and lock the building.
However, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Ramna Zone) Mazharul Islam said, “We have no permission for any kind of programme there.”
Asked whether police had been deployed at the office, he said, “This is not a deployment. Police are alert so that no untoward incident takes place around any programme.”
In a statement on Friday, Bangladesh Jasad condemned the killings of Aug 15, 1975, describing the incident as an “indelible stain” in the country’s history.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the leader of Bangladesh’s independence movement, was assassinated along with most of his family members on Aug 15, 1975.
