BNP leader killed as microbus hits auto-rickshaw in Noakhali

A BNP leader was killed and two others, including a union parishad chairman, were seriously injured when a speeding microbus hit a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Senbagh of Noakhali on Saturday evening.

The deceased was identified as Mosharraf Hossain Majumder, 55, vice-president of Kesharpar Union BNP.

According to local residents and witnesses, Mosharraf and Kesharpar Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Haque Sumon were travelling by auto-rickshaw from the union parishad office towards Kankirhat when the microbus hit the vehicle, leaving all three occupants seriously injured.

They were initially taken to a private hospital and later referred to Dhaka. Mosharraf died on the way at around 8:30pm.

Senbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdur Rahim Sarker said police were sent to the scene after receiving reports of the accident.

The microbus has been seized, but its driver fled the scene, the OC said.
