A youth was killed and another injured after two groups clashed over an internal dispute at East Bengal Super Market in Sadarghat, old Dhaka, on Saturday night.
The incident took place around 11PM on the 13th floor of East Bengal Market under Sutrapur Police Station.
The deceased was identified as Mitul, 20, a follower of former Chhatra Dal leader Kiran. He hailed from Jhalakathi district and the son of Md Russell Sardar. He was also a salesman of the market.
According to eyewitnesses, Sutrapur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Mehmenul Islam said around 8:30PM, a group of employees of different shops went to the 13th floor, where Mitul was staying, and stabbed him in the chest with a pair of scissors.
He was immediately taken to Mitford Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Asked about the incident, Dhaka South City Sramik Dal convener Md Suman Bhuiyan said, “They are not my supporters. However, they sometimes attend various rallies and meetings. As I am physically unwell, I have not yet been able to learn the details of the incident.”
