'Women to receive free education up to Hons'

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said the government has decided to provide free education to women up to the honours level as part of efforts to expand their access to education.
He said the government would bear all expenses. Scholarships would also be arranged for female students who achieve good academic results.
He made the remarks on Sunday while releasing fish fry into the Old Brahmaputra River, distributing fish fry among local fishermen and exchanging greetings with local residents at Mirzapur Chairman Barighat area in Pakundia upazila of Kishoreganj on the occasion of National Fisheries Fortnight 2026.
The prime minister said that when BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was in charge of running the country, she had made education free for women up to the intermediate level. Women make up half of the country’s population. That is why the current government has decided to provide free education to women up to the honours level, with the government bearing all expenses.
He urged the female students, present here, to study attentively so that they could take the responsibility of leading the country when they grew up.
