The identities of seven Bangladeshis killed in a devastating hotel fire in Kolkata’s New Market area have been identified, according to local authorities.

The fire erupted at 2.30AM on Wednesday on Shikha Inn, situated on Mirza Ghalib Street. It emerged that the other two victims were Indian nationals " Sandeep Paswan, 19, hailing from Jharkhand, and Yogi Narayan, 68, a resident of Siliguri.

Other Bangladeshis who lost their lives were Babu Ahmed, 37, from Savar, Dhaka; Rebati Sarkar from Kaliganj, Satkhira; and S M Alimuzzaman. The others had come here to seek medical treatment while some were on tour.

The fire erupted in the third floor of the five-storey hotel and thick smoke spread very fast. The fire fighters could bring the fire under control in about two hours.
