Woman sentenced to five years in jail arrested in Dhaka

A woman sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment has been arrested from the capital’s Kaptan Bazar area, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said.

The arrestee was identified as Mosammat Nasima Akter, 52.

According to DMP, a team from Wari Police Outpost arrested her around 8pm on Sunday following a tip-off.

Police said a court had sentenced Nasima to five years of rigorous imprisonment in a case. She had been absconding at different locations since the verdict was delivered.

Nasima was handed over to Wari Police Station, where further legal proceedings are underway, DMP said.
