
A mobile court of Chattogram City Corporation fined a man Tk 20,000 for illegally storing construction materials on a highway and obstructing traffic in the Halishahar area.
The drive was conducted on Monday at Barapole intersection, led by Executive Magistrate Raktim Chowdhury, the city corporation’s regional executive officer.
According to the city corporation, construction materials had been kept on the busy road for a long time, disrupting the movement of pedestrians and vehicles. The man was fined under relevant provisions of the Chattogram City Corporation Act, 2009. He was also sentenced to 20 days of simple imprisonment in case of non-payment.
Raktim Chowdhury said occupying roads and footpaths and causing public suffering is a punishable offence. Such drives will continue to ensure safe and convenient movement for city residents.
