A shipment declared as 'used car parts' was allegedly being used to import four luxury vehicles into Bangladesh by cutting the cars into three to four large sections and disguising them as spare parts.

According to customs intelligence officials, the consignment contained major components of a Range Rover Vogue, BMW 650i, Lexus LX570 and Toyota Crown Athlete.
The four vehicles could have a combined market value of around Tk 4.5 crore to Tk 6.7 crore, or potentially even more, in Bangladesh.
However, the entire shipment had been declared as 14 types of used automobile spare parts, with a customs-assessable value of only around Tk 9.94 lakh.
The customs authorities are investigating the consignment and the alleged attempt to evade duties and import restrictions by disguising complete luxury vehicles as used spare parts.
