5 more die of measles in 24hrs

Five more children died of measles-like symptoms in the last  24 hours starting from 8am Thursday to 8am Friday, taking the total number of fatalities to 960 since March 15.

During this period, 1,170 were affected by measles and measles-like symptoms. Of them, 70 were diagnosed with measles, while 1,100 showed measles-like symptoms. Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the figures in its measles-related report released on Friday.

Of the five deaths, three were from Sylhet Division while two other died in Dhaka Division. However, there are no deaths related to measles at this time, the DGHS release said.

Since March 15, a total of 861 deaths have been reported among people with measles-like symptoms, while 99 people have died after being diagnosed with measles, according to the DGHS.

Data from the health directorate showed that 154,792 have developed measles-like symptoms since March 15 this year. During the same period, measles was diagnosed in 18,796, bringing the total number of people affected by measles and measles-like symptoms to 173,588.

Since March 15, a total of 135,473 with measles-like symptoms have been admitted to hospitals, while 130,457 patients have been discharged.
